USING GAMIFICATION APPLICATION IN ENHANCING ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS OFGRADE 10 STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to determine the use of gamification application in enhancing English Language skills of Grade 10 students in selected secondary schools in Calaca District, S.Y 2022-2023. The research respondents of the study were all Grade 10 English Teachers in public secondary schools in the District of Calaca. A total of thirty (30) English teachers was used. Moreover, the researcher utilized purposive sampling method in getting the teachers as the respondents of the study. The descriptive method of research was used to gather information on teachers’ engagement and challenges in using gamification application to improve the English Language Skills of Grade 10 students. Data gathered were statistically analyzed using Tau Kendall Coefficient of Concordance= W-Test to show the significant association among the extent of respondents' assessment on the use of gamification applications in enhancing English language skills and the challenges encountered on it. Results showed that teachers’ engagement on the use of gamification applications in terms of attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction were at a very great extent; teachers strongly agree on the impact of using gamification applications in improving the English Language Skills of Grade 10 students in terms of speaking, listening, reading, writing, and viewing; teachers agree that there are challenges encountered in using the gamification applications in improving English Language Skills of the students; and there is a significant association among the extent of respondents' assessment on the use of gamification in improving the English Language Skills of the students and the challenges encountered. A proposed instructional activities designed by the researcher was considered to enhance teachers' and students' engagement in gamifying the classroom to enhance students' English Language Skills in Grade 10 Level.
