UNITY IN DIVERSITY

by: ROSELYN P. DE DIOS

· Volume VI Issue I

Growing up as someone who wasn't very social was tough,

Dealing with bullying since I was young, it was rough.

That's why I decided to take on the challenge of college,

I chose to study at a private university in Manila, seeking knowledge.

I noticed our contrasts upon college debut,

From introvert to extrovert, a transformation so true.

Chatting with newfound friends, a joy to pursue,

As days passed, differences observed, yet united we grew.

I'm from Luzon, Tagalog I speak so clear,

My buddies from La Union and Ilocos, Ilocano they hold dear.

A mate from Antique, Visayan she does share,

With Kapampangan friends, different dialects we declare.

The Filipino language helped us connect,

Sometimes we had misunderstandings to correct.

But we always made things right before the day was over,

Showing how important communication is in any relationship.

But what I cherished most in my college days,

Is how we embraced each other despite our diverse ways.

Speaking differently, raised in varied cultural plays,

Yet living in unity, as Filipinos, in a peaceful haze.

It was the most memorable part of my student days,

Our diverse cultures and dialects didn't lead to dismays.

Instead, we welcomed each other's unique ways,

And discovered love and unity, like one big family.
