ABSTRACT
The study focused on the development of TVL Cookery Excel-based Learning Resources Link System completed in School Year 2022-2023. Quantitative descriptive research designed was utilized in the study which involved teachers and students (N=81) under Technical-Vocational-Livelihood Track. Weighted Mean, Frequency Rank, and Ranking are used to measure and present gathered data. The findings revealed that there is a significant lack of essential learning materials in TVL Cookery, such as textbooks, tutorials, and online resources. Additionally, the research found that an Excel-based learning material link system can effectively improve teaching and learning efficiency. Both teachers and students perceive this system as valuable, and it positively impacts student learning outcomes, leading to higher grades, deeper understanding, increased motivation, and better practical skills. The study recommends that schools prioritize acquiring and developing a comprehensive range of learning materials for TVL Cookery. Additionally, schools should invest in implementing Excel-based learning material link systems to enhance teaching and learning. To ensure effective utilization, schools should promote the use of these systems and provide necessary training and support. Finally, the study suggests that schools consider integrating Excel-based learning material link systems into other TVL disciplines and strands to further improve student learning outcomes.
Context and Rationale
The Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) curriculum aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the workplace. One of the key challenges in TVL education is providing students with access to relevant and up-to-date learning materials (Nabuya, et al., 2019). As such, lacking learning materials could affect the teaching and learning deliveries, especially on the opportunities for the students to acquire the necessary conceptual and technical foundation relative to the field which can be addressed if learning materials are available. Thus, it is important that innovation and other strategies to improve student’s learning are to be done to augment the current educational setting.
According to Monsalve (2024), a well-structured learning material link system, utilizing Excel as a platform, can address challenges by simplifying teacher’s workflow and creating a centralized repository of resources. The versatility and functionality of Excel system make it an ideal tool for organizing and managing learning materials. Its spreadsheet structure allows for easy categorization and classification of resources, ensuring that students can quickly and efficiently locate the materials needed for specific subject. Moreover, Excel's compatibility with various devices and operating systems makes it accessible to a wide range of learners (Faster Capital.com, 2024).The easiness of use of the excel system would be beneficial to the learners as getting the needed learning resources are just a hyperlink away.
The need to have an accessible and ready to use learning materials would enhance the knowledge and skills of students as learning would translate to competency to be used in the chose discipline. Thus, a TVL Cookery Excel-based learning material link system can serve as a valuable resource for both students and teachers. Students can use the system to access a variety of learning materials, including textbooks, worksheets, presentations, videos, and online tutorials. Teachers, on the other hand, can utilize the system to create and share lesson plans, assessments, and supplementary materials. By providing a centralized repository of learning materials, the system can help to ensure that students have access to consistent and high-quality resources. This can contribute to improved learning outcomes and better preparation for the workforce. Additionally, the system can help to reduce the cost of education by eliminating the need for expensive textbooks and printed materials (Saha, 2022).
One of the key benefits of using Excel as a platform for the learning material link system is its ability to integrate with other educational technologies in which system can be linked to online learning platforms, digital textbooks, and assessment tools. This can create a more seamless and integrated learning experience for students. By carefully considering other factors to improve system utilization, it is possible to create a TVL Excel-based learning material link system that can significantly enhance the quality of education and prepare students for success in the workforce.
In lieu of the foregoing premises, the present study focused on the development of TVL Cookery Excel-based Learning Resources Link System completed in School Year 2022-2023. Specifically, it identified the lacking learning materials for TVL Cookery as perceived by the students, assessed the system improve the efficiency and effectiveness of teaching and learning, determined students and teacher’s perception on the usefulness of the system, and determine if system have a positive impact on student learning outcomes.
