ABSTRACT
This study attempted to determine attempts to assess student nurses' knowledge of the nursing process and its clinical performance. The result of this study bridged the gap and gave essential information on the extent of student nurses' knowledge of the nursing process and their clinical performance.
This study was conducted during the first semester of the school year 2018-2019. It included the 4th and 3rd-year student nurses as respondents of this study to the exclusion of the lower year levels. A descriptive-evaluative method of research was used. Standardized questionnaires were utilized. Frequency, percentages, and mean were used to analyze and interpret the data. This study focused on the student nurses' profile, knowledge of the nursing process, and clinical performance as its variables.
The result of the study shows that out of 64 respondents only 41 were able to fill up the questionnaire. The findings revealed that the majority of student nurse respondents are female, single, belong to the age range 20-25 or young adult group, and lack training and seminar relevant to the nursing profession.
In terms of knowledge of the nursing process, findings revealed that the majority of the nursing students are on average in terms of knowledge of the nursing process.
As to the nursing assessment, the nursing students are perceived to be good at collecting data concerning the patients' health status needs to enhance skills on data analyses.
In terms of nursing diagnosis student nurses are perceived to lack skills in ranking nursing diagnosis in order of priority
The nursing students are perceived to be good at the planning of nursing care but need to develop their skills in the implementation process.
In terms of nursing intervention, student nurses are perceived to be good at designing an individualized nursing intervention while they are perceived to be low at maintaining patients.
In terms of nursing evaluation, findings revealed that student nurses are good at revising the Nursing Care Plan as needed by the continuous assessment while lacking skills in modifying nursing care when no progress is being made.
The findings finally revealed that the nursing students are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively deliver quality nursing care to the patients.
