INTRODUCTION OF THE RESEARCH
The Department of Education says that over 10 million students have enrolled for the 2020-2021 school year (CNN Philippines, 2020). Given the data, it is a big task to provide each student the best and quality education. All the necessary services to further develop the students’ capabilities and skills are at stake and should be addressed. During the time that traditional learning is possible and on the move, a lot of factors for students’ learning and development are still not dealt. Even more at this time when the whole world is in the middle of pandemic, the declining learning and development continue.
Consequently, the effort of the teachers to reach out to the students and help them cope with the struggles they encounter are still a major concern. Even the parents.
At this time of pandemic, the primary concern of the parents is the safety of their children and how they are going to deal with their studies since the parents are given tasks to do homeschooling for the sake of their children. Similarly, an inquiry of how can the teacher help their students while they are working from home is a demand. The recent pandemic is avoiding the face-to-face learning to help beat COVID-19. Parents across the nation are increasingly concerned about sending their children to school. In fact, 89% of parents indicated they were concerned about their child’s safety at school in relation to COVID-19. Not only are parents concerned, they are ready to make changes on behalf of their children if desired safety measures are not met.
Although different learning modalities are options for the phase of learning of students, the mere fact that many parents have their apprehension on how they can give the best teaching to their children when in reality, this should be done at school with their teachers.
This may sound cliché but parental involvement in a child's education is an advantage that money cannot buy. Being involved in one’s child's education not only helps a child to achieve more academically, but it also lifts teacher morale and provides one with the satisfaction of making a difference in a child's education.
Taking a look at the value of home/school partnership is universally accepted. Yet, it is not always easy to uphold. A lot of factors may be considered like relationships, roles and functions of the collaborating team of parents and teachers.
Learning will surely take place if the consequences of parent and teacher collaboration is given emphasis. Hence, there should be proper guidelines to do such teamwork.
In relation to the current situation, this study will be conducted to determine the impact of parent-teacher collaboration in the students’ learning and development; to distinguish the role dimension of parents and teachers in the student; to identify the perception of parents and teachers in the student’s academic performances; to determine the impact of parent-teacher collaboration in the learning and development; to craft an action plan that can enhance the students’ performance through parent-teacher collaboration.
With this, students will benefit the most on their learning and development as both the teacher and parents are involved in the crafting of enhancement plan.
