‟THE EFFECTS OF INTERACTIVE SCIENCE NOTEBOOK AS A TOOL ON THE ACHIEVEMENT SCORES OF GRADE 7 STUDENTS USING TWO MODES OF LEARNING”

CHARO MAY J. NAIGAN

The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of Interactive Science Notebook (ISN) using two learning modes on the achievement test of Grade 7 Students in Biology Class. The two learning modes were traditional method with ISN and cooperative learning method with ISN.

The study was conducted with 42 students in four sections at Towerville National High School where students were tested with pre-tests and post-tests containing 40 multiple choice questions. The learners exposed in experimental and control group with same Biology lessons covering about Biological Organization, Plant Cell and Animal Cell, Microbiology (Bacteria, Protist, Fungi).

The researcher utilized quasi-experimental design to conduct the study. After the pretest was given to both experimental and control groups, students in experimental groups were given an orientation on how to make the ISN. After two months of exposure on the use of ISN among the experimental group, students both in experimental groups and control groups were given the same posttest.

Test scores were analyzed for any significant difference in the score of the pretest and posttest after treatment using the ISN.

The results from the present study indicate that the use of ISN in cooperative learning mode and traditional learning mode has noticeably impacted on the Biology researcher made test, thus, the researcher recommends the use of the ISN in the teaching and learning process in the classroom.
