ABSTRACT
The K-12 Program was implemented by the Department of Education in 2013 to address the decline of the country's education in the past years. However, the program received criticisms and prompted confusion and complaints, mainly due to the increased expenses. This mixed method study utilized a descriptive research design, aiming to find the advantages and disadvantages of the K-12 Program in comparison to the previous education system. The researchers distributed the survey questionnaires to the 40 teachers in the chosen public and private schools in Balayan. Through this, the researchers found that the difference between the K-12 Program and the old education system lies on their respective curriculum designs, teaching approaches, and teaching materials. The advantages of the K-12 Program are evident in the teaching and learning processes. The disadvantages, however, are the financial instability of Filipino families, pressure on educators, and its inaccessibility to underprivileged youth. This study also gathered that the K-12 Program affects students' academic performance both negatively and positively.
