TEACHERS’ PROFICIENCY IN ICT: WORKING THE NICHE TOWARDS ICT TRAININGS

ABSTRACT

Purpose: The research focused to identify and classify teachers’ skills in ICT (Information and Communications Technology). The findings served as basis of ICT Trainings to be given to the teachers of the Municipality of Amadeo, Cavite.

Design / Methodology: The researchers used descriptive method to obtain the level of computer skills and the literacy of teachers in ICT. Stratified sampling was used. Research questions were validated and sent to Google sheets and was answered online. The data collected from the survey were statistically analyzed using 95% level of confidence with 5% margin of error to draw meaningful research conclusions.

Findings: Out of 96 total respondents, 68.75% has Basic Computer Operational Skills. The 1.35 mean showed that teachers in the district of Amadeo were proficient in terms of basic computer skills such as keyboarding, mouse/touchpad manipulation and internet browsing. Only 21.88% of the respondents has Specific Computer Skills, 1.95 mean showed that teachers should be taught computer skills such as downloading and uploading materials, creating documents online, creating presentations, exporting and importing video clips and using ICT Integration like QR Code and ZipGrade.

Research Limitations: From 128 teachers, 96 teachers identified as respondents of the study. The sampling used was stratified sampling for the school year 2018-2019 only.

Practical Implications: The result of this research would serve as bases for ICT Trainings for teachers in District level.

Originality/Value: The research was based on the problem encountered by ICT teachers on manipulating different applications in computer.
