Abstract

Student often assess research courses negatively and consider them complicated. This study used the Attitudes towards Research Scale to assess the attitudes of purposively selected students of Senior High School (SHS) in one of the public schools in the District of Bay. This scale consisted of 5 items indicative statement about research fewer than 3 factors namely; self-confidence, usefulness and relevance to life. This study used researcher-made questionnaire, and statistical descriptive method to gather, tabulate and analyze the data. There were 27 senior high school students participated in the study. The data were gathered through self-administered approach during their class time. It was concluded that the male students have positive attitudes towards research on the Factor 3 “relevance to life” than female students with the mean average of 4.29 and standard deviation of 0.57 on the factors. Generally, the senior high school students hold “positive attitudes” towards research with a grand mean of 3.87. The researcher recommended that there is a dire need to develop a module that supports the positive attitudes of senior high students toward research.
