· Volume II Issue III

RESEARCH PLAN

This provides the conceptualization of the investigatory project to be designed by the researchers. This includes the rationale, research questions and expected outcome of the research. Moreover, this gives the research methods and assumed conclusions of the study.

RATIONALE

Human beings have a big impact on their environment. Garbage is one of the most threatening effect of human to nature. People, unlike other animals, contain too much waste for nature to manage. With the world's population continuing to grow, halting or reversing the situation would become more complicated. There is no more important issue facing people today than the need to save the weakening environment.

Millions of tons of urban solid waste are generated every day globally. Solid waste has emerged as one of the most visible environmental issues among countries. Urban waste management is paying much attention, as it is evident that so much trash is left uncollected in the streets, creating inconvenience, contamination, and a public health threat.

Garbage disposal is undoubtedly the main problem of City of Sto.Tomas. With the increase consumption of daily human needs along with the demands of rising population and urbanization generation of wastes also upsurges. Trash is becoming a bigger problem for us Tomasinos as we continue to waste more, use more renewable resources, and pollute our environment.

To overcome this ever increasing serious problem, speeding up decomposition of waste seems to be a fruitful solution. Certain bacterial strains had been discovered to degrade these waste in a short span of time. This project will provide information regarding the potency of Trichoderma sp. as a biodegradable solution in rapid decomposition of waste materials.

This fact urged the researchers to come up with a project that will lessen the burden of garbage problem in their place.

Furthermore, the researchers desire to come up with a result enough to help the city in addressing the issue of proper waste management.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

Specifically, the study wanted to answer the subsequent questions:

  1. To describe the potentials of fungi Trichoderma sp. in speeding up decomposition process.
  2. How long does it take to complete decomposition process?
  3. What are the contents of the by-product of decomposed materials of Trichoderma sp.?

HYPOTHESES

Trichoderma sp. is fungi that can expedite decomposition process.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

The following are the anticipated results of the research:

  1. The fungi Trichoderma sp. will eventually be used to hasten decomposition of waste as part of Solid Waste Management of the community.
  2. The byproduct of the decomposition of Trichoderma sp. will be a great help to enhance soil fertility and soil health, thereby increased agricultural productivity, improved soil biodiversity, reduced ecological risks and a better environment.
