PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING AND PARENTING STYLES IN THE NEW NORMAL AMONG SOLO PARENTS IN GENERAL MARIANO ALVAREZ, CAVITE

ABSTRACT

The focal point of this study was to determine the manifestation level of psychological well-being and parenting styles among solo parents in the province of General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite and to identify if there was significant relationship among the two variables. The researcher utilized the quantitative research using the descriptive correlational design in the study. After consideration of the total population of the locale and computing the appropriate sample size, simple random as sampling technique was used in determining the 100 respondents of the study. Adopted validated questionnaires such as the Psychological Well-being Scale and Parenting Style of Solo Parent using the Parenting Style Four Factor Questionnaire (PS-FFQ) were used as research instrument in gathering the needed data.

Using the five-point Likert Scale, the simple mean, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and after an in-depth analysis of the data collected, findings revealed that among the correlation values obtained, weak negative correlation observed in correlating the psychological well-being domain environmental master with the parenting styles Authoritarian and permissive, same results is reported with the relationship between positive relations to others and authoritative parenting. This are the only variables with which a significant relationship was found between the domains of psychological well-being and parenting style of the respondents. The Parenting and Psychological Well-being Program is the proposed program for the solo parents.
