Project READVENTURE: Find Reading an Adventure is an innovative literacy project designed to significantly enhance Filipino learners’ reading proficiency and comprehension by embedding structured daily reading routines, interdisciplinary assessments, and real-time learner monitoring into school practices. Implemented during SY 2023–2024 at Banyaga National High School and schools in Agoncillo District, Division of Batangas, the project comprises three integrated components: (1) READventure daily home reading booklets; (2) TRAILS (Transformative Reading Assessment Integrating Learning in Other Subjects); and (3) SILA (Subject Integrated Literacy Assessment). This multi-pronged intervention engaged 1,347 students and 35 teachers, alongside parents, LGUs, NGOs, and faith-based organizations in a whole-of-society approach aligned with the MATATAG Curriculum’s focus on foundational skills, decongested learning areas, and community partnership.
Notably, the program led to a 100% reduction in non-readers at Banyaga NHS, over 80% decrease in struggling readers, and a 98% drop in absenteeism across the district. Literacy was strengthened through cross-disciplinary tasks in other learning areas, coupled with continuous performance tracking and quarterly “React and Reflect” feedback loops. The initiative was guided by a Gantt chart-based timeline, stakeholder workshops, and a sustainability plan funded by LGUs and grants. The project’s scalability is evidenced by its replication in six additional schools within the Division of Batangas and outside Division which is officially endorsed by the Division Office, and integration into SLAC and LAC sessions. Anchored on DepEd Order No. 42, s. 2017 (PPST), READVENTURE exemplifies best practices in content application, assessment design, literacy strategies, and community engagement—offering a replicable model for driving inclusive and sustainable literacy gains in basic education.
