PURPOSE
Many teachers struggle in finding out how to motivate pupils to learn. This is especially true when teaching Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao and Araling Panlipunan which seems to be boring to many learners. This calls for the application of a strategy that will make the pupils highly involved in classroom discussion to tap their interest and help them attain academic success. This research aimed to determine the effect of the structured cooperative group learning to the academic performance in EsP and AP of the grade 6 learners.
DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH
This action research utilized the quantitative approach. The general or over-all MPS during the S.Y 2018-2019 and the first quarter test in S.Y 2019-2020 of EsP and AP are the basis to determine the improvement of the academic performance in EsP of Grade 6 learners in Balibago Elementary School.
FINDINGS
The first part of the findings showed the results of the pre-assessment in ESP and AP during the school year 2018-2019 had composite mean of 3.00 while MPS is 66.98; both are below mastery level in their performance. The second part displayed the post-assessment in EsP and AP for the current school year 2019-2020 for First Grading Period. The total population in this study is 703. The Mean is 35.00 with its corresponding MPS is 70.33 respectively.
The last part of the findings showed that there is a significant difference in the performance of the Grade 6 pupils in the proposed intervention program. The significant difference between the pre-assessment and post-assessment is 0.03. Furthermore, it manifests that there is a significant difference in the performance of the Grade 6 pupils from the pre-test to the post-test of EsP and Araling Panlipunan. It connotes that there is a positive impact of the proposed intervention program to the performance of the Grade 6 pupils in both EsP and Araling Panlipunan.
