ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of modular and online classes in the learning modalities of Grade 9 Technology and Livelihood Education students of Pulong Santa Cruz National High School (PSCNHS), City Schools Division of Santa Rosa. The results of the study were used as basis for training program in teaching TLE. Participants of this study were 130 students enrolled in online and modular learning modalities. There were 89 modular students and 41 online students who willingly consented the researcher to use their scores for the purposes of this study.
The study employed a survey-questionnaire administered via online platform and printed copies to the students. Pre-test and post-test were also administered on the start and end of the one quarter.
Results showed that majority of the students belong to low-income families earning 10,000 pesos and below and that the health condition of the students who participated in this investigation was generally good. Both online learners and modular learners recorded a generally positive perception of TLE as a subject, but the latter was even more positive than the former having computed an overall weighted mean of 3.25 which is 0.09 higher. Moreover, two assessments showed that there is a growth of 12.36 percent in the number of modular learners who reached the advanced level while there was only 7.32 percent for online learners. The mean growth of students under online approach is 6.88 while those in modular approach is 13.20. The calculated t is 3.79 and it is greater than the critical value which is 2.617.
Based on the data, there is a significant relationship between family income and learning outcomes. It is supported by the p-value of 0.000. On the other hand, the x2 calculated for health condition is 151.099 which is less than the critical value of 177.39. Thus, the relationship between the two variables is negligible or not significant. Similarly, the value of x2 calculate for perception is less than the critical value i.e., 78.568<95.081. Thus, the relationship between perception and effectiveness is also negligible.
It was recommended to implement modular distance learning than those students enrolled in online classes may also enjoy the flexibility of modular learning. It was further suggested to make modular and online learning more accessible to all students regardless of their income difference through the adoption of a modular and online learning. Through modality of learning, students would enjoy the advantages of both online and modular learning without needing to spend a lot of money.
