ABSTRACT

Supporting students as they self-select learning targets, self-monitor their progress, and self-assess their development helps them grow to be self-dependent beings. This action research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of PEAKS as an intervention in enhancing the "Pagsisiyasat, Pagsusuri ng Datos" skills of Grade 10 students at Matucay National High School, using the One-Group Pre-test-Post-test Quasi Experimental Research Design, utilizing the pre-test and post-test as the main sources of data. The school team quality-assured the teacher-made questionnaires. The study included eighteen (18) grade 10 students (9 males and 9 females) who were chosen on the basis of their diagnostic test results, as well as 18 parents who represented each of the students. The results of this study show that there is an improvement in the performance of the learners, as indicated by the computed mean and standard deviation values. A significant increase in the post-test scores of the participants was evident. Moreover, results revealed that there was a large effect of the intervention size on the performance of the participants. Meanwhile, parents’ perceptions revealed that they were highly engaged in ensuring that their children accomplished their tasks appropriately and properly. Hence, it is recommended that teachers may utilize PEAKS in teaching Kontemporaryong Isyu and that school administrators may support the teachers on the sustainability of contextualized PEAKS to improve the mastery level of the learners in Araling Panlipunan 10. Also, the conduct of similar studies at a wider scope is recommended for the enhancement of PEAKS.
