OPTIMIZING SYNERGY TOWARDS UNDERSTANDING THE K TO 12 FILIPINO CURRICULUM IN THE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to optimize synergy of K to 12 Filipino curriculum implementers among junior high schools in the Province of Batangas with the end in view of proposing a management program. It covered the profile of Filipino teachers in terms of educational attainment, years in teaching Filipino subject, position/designation, and Filipino subjects taught. For deeper analysis, the assessment of the extent of manifestation of knowledge in Filipino curriculum relative to DepEd mandates, professional development, and future challenges were also determined. Moreover, the challenges encountered by the teachers in using Filipino curriculum were considered. Likewise, differences in the challenges in the implementation when teachers are grouped according to profile variables were also noted. On the basis of the results, a synergy management program for teachers was proposed.

This study was limited to three hundred ten (310) Junior High School Filipino teachers in the Province of Batangas. This study was also limited to the variables included by the researcher in the study. Moreover, the study was limited only to the answers given by the respondents on the administered questionnaire, sharing of insights from the focus group discussion and interview.

Results from the findings revealed that junior high school Filipino teachers in Province of Batangas have commendable profile in terms of teaching competence and qualifications. Also, determinants such as DepEd mandates greatly affected the understanding of K to 12 JHS Filipino curriculum implementers while professional development and future challenges moderately affected the understanding of the aforementioned implementers. Likewise, keeping updated on the current trends in education and adapting to the new normal system of teaching and learning due to pandemic were the most challenging aspects met by Filipino teachers in K to 12 curriculum implementation. No significant difference between respondents’ profile and the challenges they encountered in using K to 12 JHS Filipino curriculum. The proposed management program aimed to synergize JHS Filipino teachers’ skills and competence.
