Millennial Language Acquisition among Grade-10 Students of Pinamukan Integrated School

a. Purpose
This research work prompted to find out the perceptions of the students on the identified factors of millennial language acquisition and its relationship to the attitude of the young learners. Present substantial information to propose new strategies in teaching English language.

b. Design/Methodology/Approach
Descriptive method of research was used using frequency and percentage, weighted mean, t-test and Pearson r for the analysis of data. The respondents were 149 Grade-10 students. Researcher-made questionnaire was used and interviews were conducted.

c. Findings
It had been shown that there is a significant relationship between the identified factors that leads to millennial language acquisition and the attitude of the learners.

d. Research Limitations/Implications
It is limited to Grade-10 learners of the institution of the current school year 2019-2020. The aspects looked into are the attitudes of the learners and its relationship to acquisition of millennial language.

e. Originality/Value
This study was different because it focuses on a current issue about Millennial Language Acquisition which timely and relevant address.

ABSTRACT

The Philippines is considered as as one of the English-speaking nations in the. In fact, English has always been one of the official languages of the country and the medium of instruction in the field of education. However, due to the existence of factors like, peer interaction, social media, reading and printed materials, prominent individuals and environmental influence English language is continually being modified. With this study, the researcher prompted to find out the perceptions of the students on the factors as key drivers of millennial language acquisition and its relationship to the attitude of the young learners.

The purpose of this study is to present data and substantial information to propose new strategies in teaching English language. Descriptive method of research was used using frequency and percentage, weighted mean, t-test and Pearson r for the analysis of data. The respondents were 149 Grade-10 students. Researcher-made questionnaire was used and interviews were conducted.

Upon the conduct of this study it had been shown that there is a significant relationship between the perceptions of the students in the identified factors of language acquisition and the attitude of the learners.

Based on the data gathered, adopting Edutainment Strategy, The Principle of Krathwolh’s Theory, Peer Learning and the Used of Literary Text are the strategies proposed to improve the performance of students in teaching English language. The application of this strategies would help the teachers manage the tension in the students’ mind in understanding the semantics, lexical, morphological and phonological aspects of the language used.
