LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES OF SELECTED SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS IN THE SCHOOLS DIVISION OF TAGUIG CITY AND PATEROS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC: INPUT FOR ENHANCED

The study aimed to assess the leadership competencies of selected school administrators in the Schools Division of Taguig City and Pateros during COVID-19 pandemic input for enhanced professional development program during the school year 2020-2021. 

This study is limited to the school administrators in public elementary schools in the Schools Division of Taguig City and Pateros. The respondents of the study were sixty-seven (67) selected public elementary school administrators, master teachers and department heads  out of the total population of two hundred nine (209) public elementary school administrators, master teachers and department heads    in the Schools Division of Taguig City and Pateros. The study used the Slovins Formula with 10% of margin of error in determining the sample respondents per school. The study used the descriptive survey research utilizing the researcher made instrument. The instrument used in the study was adapted and modified from the Seameo Innotech Learning Guide on Success Competencies of Southeast Asian School Heads. The study considered the five components of the perceived leadership competencies of school heads in terms of strategic thinking and innovation, managerial leadership, instructional leadership, personal excellence, and stakeholder engagement. 

The study found out that in general, most (f=20, 29.9 percent) of the school heads are 5 years and below in service and majority (f= 26, 38.8 percent) of them have units in Doctorate degree. More so, the school administrators in the Schools Division of Taguig City and Pateros are Highly Competent in terms of planned rational and modernization, administrative management, educational management, personal excellence, and stakeholder engagement. There is significant difference between the level of leadership competencies of selected school administrators with respect to managerial leadership and stakeholder engagement in terms of their length of service as a school administrator, since the obtained p-value of 0.00 does not exceed at 0.05 level of significance, thus the null hypothesis is rejected. It simply shows that school administrators working experience matters in their managerial leadership and stakeholder engagement to further improve the performance of the school. It can be concluded that majority of the school administrator are neophyte in the service and closer to the highest level of education. The level of perceived leadership competencies of school administrators in the Schools Division of Taguig City and Pateros during the COVID-19 pandemic is Highly Competent. Also, the managerial leadership and stakeholder engagement is directly affected by the school administrators’ length of service. Meanwhile, the strategic thinking and innovation, instructional leadership, and personal excellence is inversely affected by the school administrators’ educational attainment.
