INTEREST, CONFIDENCE AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF THE GRADE SIX LEARNERS USING ONE STORY EVERY WEEK: A BASIS FOR AN ENRICHMENT PROGRAM FOR

STRUGGLING READERS

Purpose

The research generally aimed to test the level of interest, level of confidence and learner's academic performance of the respondents using one story every week as a basis for the enrichment program.

Methodology

The experimental research design was used in the research to strengthen the effect of the one-story every week in the struggling readers.

Findings

The result of the research was the before the enrichment and it reveals that the learners are “not interested” and before the enrichment program and it reveals that the learners are “not confident’ and need to have the enrichment program that helps the learners to boost their confidence and interest in reading especially the struggling readers. There is a significant difference from the first quarter to the fourth quarter and revealed that the enrichment program has a “very strong relationship” and needs to be used for the next school year as an enrichment program for struggling readers to improve their academic performance. The level of interest of the learners after an enrichment program revealed that the learners are “interested” moreover, the level of confidence in reading of the grade six (6) learners after the enrichment program and revealed that the learners are “confident” in their reading skills, therefore there is a need to apply for the enrichment program in the following school year.

Research Limitation

The research is limited only to the forty (40) grade six learners from Elvira Razon Aranilla Elementary School in Lucena City.
