The recent result of academic achievement of SHS students in Pinagkawitan Integrated National High School revealed that the school scored 36.18% compared to 42.41 of the division in the Basic Education Exit Assessment for School Year 2017-2018.  Though the Division of Lipa City attained the highest score among the divisions in Region 4A CALABARZON Hence, this sounds alarming. Also, the Mean Percentage Score (MPS) of PINHS Senior High School for the school year 2017-2018 was 60.48%.  With this data, the school was obviously performing way below the quality standards of 75% MPS as prescribed by DepEd.

In this context, the researcher as the Principal II wanted to improve achievement through innovation of instructional leadership.  In line with this, the researcher aimed to increase the academic achievement of SHS students through instructional leadership in Pinagkawitan Integrated National High School.

II. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The respondents of the study were 13 Senior High School teachers from Pinagkawitan Integrated National High School of the school year 2019-2020.  These respondents correspond to the whole population of the department. The data for the determination of the perceived instructional leadership of the researcher to improve SHS instruction was derived from the responses in the form of a questionnaire. The researcher also gathered the Fourth Quarter MPS of the students from the same teacher-respondents.

The researcher prepared the necessary permit to conduct the study to the students. A permit for this research was first secured from the PSDS (Public schools district supervisor.) The researcher crafted a 30-item questionnaire with five response points Likert scale to draw out proper responses to the objectives of this study.

III. SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

After the conduct of this study, the researcher arrived at the following findings.

1. The SHS academic achievement was 62.05% MPS during the Fourth Quarter Examination in Pinagkawitan Integrated National High School.

    0.42.

Conclusions

Based on the findings of this study, the researchers arrived at several conclusions.

1. The students’ achievement of Pinagkawitan Integrated National High School during the Fourth Quarter Examination was below the target average of 75%.

2. The indicated role of an instructional leader such as in curriculum implementation, in teaching strategies, in undertaking research, in mentoring teachers and in monitoring and evaluating teaching and learning process were practiced to the highest extent. Only the role in the provision of instructional materials was practiced to a high extent.

3. The results indicated that there is a relationship between the roles of the instructional leader and academic achievement of the students.

Recommendation

1. The instructional leader should organize an intensified remediation program to improve the academic achievement of the students.

2. Conduct inset seminars, training and LAC sessions focusing on the roles of the instructional leader in the provision of instructional materials.

3. A recommendation for further study is to use it in a specific subject, consider other factors in the period of implementation and determine the effects of such roles to the achievement of the students.
