ABSTRACT
This research investigates the potential of Lakatan banana peels as a source of natural ingredients for a topical cream designed to treat skin rashes. Recognizing the abundance and often-discarded nature of banana peels, this study explores their potential as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to conventional skincare products. The research questions center around the composition of Lakatan banana peels, the processes involved in formulating a topical cream using their extracts, and the effectiveness of the resulting cream in treating skin rashes. The study employs a quasi-experimental design, utilizing a control group and two treatment groups that receive different concentrations of banana peel extract in the formulated cream. The research was conducted at the Balayan Senior High School laboratory and involved the extraction of nutrients from the peels, the formulation of the cream, and preliminary efficacy testing using rats with induced skin rashes. The results indicate a potential positive effect of the banana peel extract cream in reducing scratching frequency and promoting skin healing. The study highlights the potential of banana peels as a valuable resource for natural skincare applications, offering a promising approach for both sustainable waste management and the development of effective natural remedies.
