SCHOOLS IN TUY, BATANGAS

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to identify the factors affecting the academic performance of grade three pupils in science in public elementary schools in Tuy, Batangas to substantiate the Science curriculum by proposing learning activities in Science as an additional output. There are eighteen (18) public elementary schools in the Tuy, district. There were nineteen (19) public elementary teachers who served as respondents of this study. Purposive sampling was utilized in the study following the criteria (1) at least one year in the teaching profession, (2) teacher in public elementary schools within Tuy District. The respondents agreed that the pupils master the Science concepts. The respondents strongly agreed that the instructional deliveries of the teachers teaching Science affect the performance of pupils. There is a significant difference in the performance in simple activities as to learning process, instructional materials and facilities and adequacy of learning materials. However, there is no significant difference in the mastery of the Science concepts and analyzing the results of simple activities. With the gathered results, Implementation of Science intervention materials (SIM) is highly recommended. Teachers are encouraged to make learning activity sheets for enrichment of skills of the pupils in Science.
