· Volume I Issue I

This study attempted to determine various factors that affect in the positive way the performance of teachers in a selected public elementary school in the Tanque District of the Division of City Schools in Caloocan City.

This study employed descriptive-survey research method. Respondents of the study were fifty (50) randomly selected teachers at a selected public elementary school in the Tangue District of the Division of City Schools, Caloocan City. The survey questionnaire was originally developed and validated in this study with 5-point Likert scale.

This study reveals that teaching performance is affected in varying degrees by various factors such as personal related factors, family related factors, religion related factors, work-related factors, environment related factors, activities and schedule related factors, personal gadgets related factors, economic and financial related factors and others.

It further reveals that economic and financial related factors, gadgets related factors and religion-related factors are the three most potent factors that affect teaching performance.

It is also found out that the top ten individual factors that greatly affect in the positive way the teaching performance are: monthly salary received, laptop computer, Bible reading/Bible studies, national and local allowances and honoraria received, pocket WI-FI/Broadband, regular prayer, performance bonus, other incentives and benefits, level of sound or noise or the degree of tranquillity or calmness of the environment, emotional maturity or emotional intelligence, and non-monetary rewards or recognition.

In order to augment the teaching performance of teachers, there is a great need to upgrade their economic status/financial capability of teachers by increasing their monthly salaries, by providing them with numerous bonuses, incentives, and benefits, etc. to ensure higher student achievement. The higher their economic status, and financial capability of teachers, the higher their teaching performance.

The teachers will be more effective in their teaching if various gadgets be provided to them such as laptop computer, pocket Wi-Fi/Broadband, tablet, high-tech cellphone, watch, and if possible, projector, and various high tech instructional materials, etc.

It is also found out in this study that spiritual life is directly connected with teaching performance. Teachers to be more effective, need to read the Bible daily or to have regular Bible studies, to have regular prayer, to attend weekly worship meeting or fellowship, and have at least an annual spiritual retreat to further strengthen their spiritual life.

To make teacher more effective in their teaching task, the environment that they work must be upgraded. The level of noise must be reduced; the quality of air must be upgrade to ensure zero or at least tolerable level of air pollution; cleanliness is strictly imposed; even and conducive-to-teach-and-learn temperature is maintained; and the classroom is not overcrowded with learners.

Finally, it reveals that the school itself and the work itself have a great impact to teaching performance of teachers. Teachers are empowered by attending various seminars and workshops, by providing them special assignments to perform; by having conducive-to-teach teaching schedule and loads; by having supportive school principals and supervisors; by having supportive and sympathetic co-teachers; by having nice classroom setting; by having close distance of residence of teachers to the school; and by having nice school policies and regulations.
