Facebook is a widely utilized social networking site which was formally established in 2004. Initially, its membership was limited to Harvard students only until it was gradually expanded to other universities, further to most parts of the world, including the Philippines, and going beyond the academic walls. Utilizing Facebook includes connecting with relatives and friends, posting status updates, communicating and using Facebook groups.

For young people, Facebook is a popular form of communication. More than this, it serves as a platform for creatively expressing oneself. According to Solis (2010), social media spark a revelation that we, the people, have a voice, and through the democratization of content and ideas we can once again unite around common passions, inspire movements, and ignite change.

Aside from the liberty on the content of Facebook posts, this “democratization” being mentioned can include the freedom of creativity in writing for the site. Creative writing can be defined as a writing of innovative structure with lack of restrictions to express oneself and it only requires a well-defined grammatical organization. Creative writing fosters a full range of artistic and literary diversity.

There is freedom of writing in this subject unlike in other forms where everything is under rules supervision. Writers are encouraged to write freely whether in poetry or other narrative forms. One can write without restrictions. It only requires correct use of grammar arrangements.
