EXTENT OF TEACHERS’ MOTIVATION AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS UNDER MODULAR DISTANCE LEARNING IN SINILOAN

ABSTRACT

There are a lot of studies that supports the fact that teachers have different important key roles in teaching-learning process. The teachers are the ones who have the leading role in the realization of educational work in school.

One of the crucial assets the teachers must have to secure a successful realization of the profession and to have positive effect on students’ learning is having motivation.

However, the area of teacher motivation has not received as much attention. With all the crisis and challenges being encountered by the teachers, this study aimed to determine the teachers’ extent of motivation specifically with relation to utilization of modular distance learning being implemented by the Department of Education in the Philippines.

The overall results reveal that teachers’ motivation in implementing modular distance learning greatly affects the students’ academic performance. When they are highly motivated, it produces more striving and stirring that creates positive outcomes to the academic performance of the students.

The results also implied that when the respondents experience no lack (without deficiency) in their work. This will give a positive impact to the academic performance of the students.

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are advanced:

1. It is therefore recommended that various stakeholders must to work hand in hand and plan for alternatives on different issues that may arise as they are involved in the teaching-learning process.

2. Social time and self-care activities can help teachers cultivate important aspects of well-being therefore it is also recommended to create activities or a program that promotes wellness.

3. It is suggested to cultivate a working condition and environment that would help teachers to sustain their sense of motivation.

4. Teachers must be given recognition and awards as token of appreciation based on their outputs and performances so they would be more inspired to perform their task well.

5. Teachers should be sent to seminars and trainings to upgrade their teaching skills and competencies most especially in the new normal. This will influence teacher productivity and motivation.

6. Findings of the research have shown that in the midst of the pandemic teachers will need more support from school systems and the department regarding salaries and other benefits.

7. It is further recommended that a similar study be conducted regarding teachers’ motivation and students’ academic performance in relation with the implementation of modular distance learning.
