ELUCIDATING GENDER ORIENTATION OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCE STUDENTS IN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

ABSTRACT

Elucidating gender orientation plays crucial role in preparing students for careers in various industries. However, an issue of significant concern in the realm of Humanities and Social Science education is the persistent gender issues. These gender issues can have far-reaching consequences, impacting not only the future workforce but also broader societal dynamics. Despite the effort to promote gender diversity and inclusivity, issues of gender discrimination are still present and found unsafe by the students.

The study was conducted to elucidate the gender orientation of students in SHS at Dr. Juan A. Pastor Integrated National High School. Descriptive survey was utilized as research design; six hundred forty-nine students were used as the respondents, and data had been gathered including the age, gender, and grade level. The lucidity of gender orientation was measured using Bem Sex Role Inventory, and Survey on HUMSS students’ attitude towards homosexuals, bisexuals, gays, and lesbians correspondingly.

The results show the lucidity of gender orientation is moderately high. Furthermore, there is no significant relationship between the age and grade level, in the lucidity of gender orientation of students. The researcher suggests sustaining the openness of gender orientation of students in SHS in Dr. Juan A. Pastor Integrated National High School.

INTRODUCTION

Elucidating gender orientation is imperative path for a person to freely express their accommodated gender to society. This way of orientation includes the person’s way of clothing style, visual appearance, such as haircuts, physical gestures and characteristics, verbal communication, accommodated pronouns, and mannerism (Cherry, 2021). The importance of understanding and addressing gender issues cannot be overstated. Gender diversity brings a range of representative, skills, and talents that are crucial for innovation and problem-solving as we move further into 21st century, it is essential to create an inclusive and equitable educational environment that empowers all students, regardless of their gender.

This study shows significance to two out of seventeen Sustainable Development Goals provided by the United Nations. First, Gender Equality, since this study objects to investigate the field of various gender if they are having equal treatment practice specially to the institutions that they belong.
