INTRODUCTION

Art is a form of expression and communication thus the teaching and learning in arts is a never - ending process. Arts in education provide students with the opportunity to engage the mind, the body, and emotions into collaborative expression of all that it means to be human. It allows the students to grow with understanding of what it means to not only be human, but to be good, noble, honorable kind and compassionate. Through creative expression students learn to understand the world in a unique way, preparing them to navigate the challenges after school.

In connection to Department Order 56 series of 2012 or the Guidelines on the utilization of support fund to secondary schools with special arts programs states the importance to preserve and teach the arts to subsequent generations of artistically inclined or adept pupils and students. In line with this, DepEd implements a special program for the arts in selected schools in the country. Considerations in the selection of the schools were the availability of teachers in the different art areas and basic facilities for the arts. These schools serve as the center for arts development that provides opportunities for students to develop their talents and produce trainers and mentors for other schools in the region intending to implement the same program.

Arts allow children to develop creative passion and simultaneously teach language and communication skill as well as helping them to communicate effectively with others with confidence. Likewise, arts are all about self - expression, exploring alternative options and embracing individuality. Creative learners are big-picture global thinkers with willingness to take risks and strive for excellence. With guidance, the gifted child can become creative learners and make connections to real life experiences through the arts. This can lead to a lifetime of creative thinking and future problem solving.

Moreover, all arts consist of concept embedded in a medium. The concept is the artist wants or what the student wants to show to the audience. Likewise, performing arts education advocates students to be creative both verbal and non-verbally. One way that students can express their creativity is through their writing ability. Students in performing arts are provided an outlet for their imagination they can be creative in different levels.

Therefore, this research aims to support the art programs to achieve the optimum potentials for students learning. In addition, the researcher opted to suggest activities that can lead to students’ expression of ideas and feelings openly and thoughtfully. More so, it targets to form connections between ideas and problem encountered in real life wherein experiences will bring meaningful units in whole arts education.
