ABSTRACT

The unexpected shift to distance learning caused teachers, students, and school administrators to make necessary adjustments to still go on with schooling despite the physical distance and as little communication between learners and educators. Public schools are among those who found it rather hard to adjust to. Different modes of teaching were used as well as different media and electronic device.

A survey questionnaire was disseminated to Public Elementary School Teachers in the District of Tuy, Batangas. The survey includes the features of distance education offered by the public elementary schools, the learning competencies of the learners, the relationship between the two, if any, problems encountered by schoolteachers, and some enhancement activities.

Results showed that in terms of content, pedagogy, and assessment, features of distance education are highly evident. The study also showed that learners pose great potential in developing their learning competencies despite the distance with the educators. In terms of problems encountered, the number one problem faced by public elementary school teachers is the number of reports and documents being asked of them that makes it hard to balance with their teaching load.

Recommendations include conducting further studies and testing out the hypothesis using more respondents, and continuous support and encouragement towards the students to help them understand their lessons better.
