DIGITAL QUOTIENT AND ENGLISH PROFICIENCY OF SECONDARY SPECIAL PROGRAM FOR INFORMATION

AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

The study determines the relationship between the level of Digital Quotient and English proficiency of SP-ICT students of the three high schools in General M. Natividad, Nueva Ecija.

It utilized the DQ Test developed by ProProfs Quizzes and researcher-made English proficiency test. The data were analysed by using frequencies, percentages, means and Pearson Correlation.

The study revealed that respondents’ DQ was “Satisfactory” while their English Proficiency was “Approaching Proficiency.”

It also showed that there is a significant relationship between some of the profile of the respondents and their DQ and English Proficiency.

Finally, the study showed that there is a significant relationship between the Digital Quotient and the English Proficiency of the SP-ICT students. This means that the higher the level of the Digital Quotient, the better the English Proficiency.

Based on the findings, these recommendations were made. First, the teachers as well as the parents are encouraged to continue developing the DQ of the learners especially the digital habits and skills in order to improve to excellence. Second, learning English concepts can be given a much rigid attention both by teachers and students. Third, the Department of Education may integrate teaching of Digital Quotient starting from young age. Fourth, it is recommended that English and ICT teachers help learners improve in these subjects because these subjects will help them develop their Digital Quotient and English Proficiency. Lastly, an action plan is proposed to improve both DQ and English Proficiency.
