ABSTRACT

The pandemic made online communication the new normal. Sadly, this doubled the Phishing rate in the country. This study aims to determine the level of awareness of the dangers of Phishing among Senior High School students of STI College-Balayan. The quantitative approach was utilized for the methodology of this research and employed an action research design. Thirty selected participants from different strands of STI College Balayan through Random Sampling answered the survey questionnaires containing profile information, the Likert scales, and checklist-type questions. This study utilized statistical treatments such as Frequency and Percentage Distribution, Weighted Mean, Standard Deviation, and two 5-point Likert Scales interpreting the Level of Agreement and Awareness. The findings showed that the students are doing the basic practices regarding internet browsing activities. They are aware of the password requirements, but some are still not applying them. They are also aware of the statements concerning their susceptibility but some need to learn more about handling sensitive information. They also know the risk of dangers, but few still need to improve their knowledge. The top three security practices the students know are 'Keep Your Apps and Software Updated,' 'Use of Antivirus,' and 'Use of Safe Browsing Tools.' Meanwhile, Online Websites, Parents, TV Infomercials and School Backgrounds are the factors that impact the student's level of awareness regarding Phishing the most. These findings prompted the researchers to craft Security Practices and an Infomercial to raise awareness about the dangers of Phishing. Furthermore, it is recommended that the students utilize the Security Practices and that the school lead the fight to raise awareness of these Security Practices. It is recommended that future researchers expand the population and simulate actual Phishing attack exercises to come up with additional results.
