CULTURAL ECHOES IN MODERN LONGING

by: GRACE ANN R. CABRADILLA

· Volume VI Issue I

I wish I were your headphones.

So, I know the feeling of being listened to,

Like stories from the past, passed through generations,

Of bravery, love, and unity too.

I wish I were the game that you’re spending too much into.

So, I know the feeling of being anticipated,

Like the excitement of meeting and communicating with others during fiestas and parades,

Able to motivate to try again when you’re losing,

And able to make you happy whenever you’re winning.

I wish I were your phone,

So, I know the feeling of being held in your hands,

Like the warmth of family gatherings,

The feeling of being taken care of the most,

Being checked on for scratches,

And being put in a safe place to never get lost.

I wish I were one of the objects that you have;

Something that you always focus into even when you’re with me,

Something that you always choose to keep,

Even when there’s something better that you see.

Something that makes you happy,

Even until I get extincted and out of pace.
