CREATIVE ARTS THERAPY ON STUDENT WELL-BEING AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

Art is a way for a person to express how he or she feels. Here his thoughts, sadness, happiness, and fear are freely expressed. It can be a hobby for a productive day.

Although there is no face to face, because of the blended learning modality, teachers had the chance to greet and meet their student through Facebook, google classroom or google meet. On the first day of distribution of modules, the researcher asks the parents for permission to conduct a survey and ask their children what they had been doing while they were at home for the past seven months. After being given permission from the parents to conduct the survey and interview, in the first week of class, the researcher started to conduct an interview with the students.

Based on the results of interview and survey it was found out that ten (10) from the students’ experience of anxiety. Every week until the fourth week of distribution of modules the researcher continued the interview because some students passed the module but did not answer the lesson even though it was easy. From the survey, interview, and observation during online class made by the researcher, it was observed that anxiety brings intense concern and fear that a person experience when he/she encounters an external or internal stimulus and has trouble avoiding negative physical, emotional, and mental reactions.

For this reason, various treatment and therapy are used to minimize this negative emotion and increase the feeling of satisfaction with life. Arts believed to have a mystical power since ancient Greek has been reported to lead to emotional changes, relieve and reduces stress by many studies according to Juslin & Sloboda (2010). From the present situation, this creative arts therapy will be used for the elementary students to treat them in their anxiety and help them in academic performance.
