ABSTRACT
A computer-based student locator tracks the location of the student inside the campus at the actual time. It specifically identifies the classroom assignment, subject taken, instructor, and the time the class starts and ends in real time. The system made use of the barcode that is printed on a student identification card and corresponds to the student's identification number.
Consequently, through the use of a barcode scanner that is a Zebex-3080 handheld charged-coupled device contact scanner, the information collected is instantly and accurately read and captured for the system to recognize whether the student is inside the campus or not. The database provides the actual Identification photo of the student, which confirms the authenticity of the card and the student as well. The system includes text-to-speech capability that is used as a tool in case a student cannot be located inside the campus and can accept a message intended for the person that prompts every time he logs-in or logs-out.
The researchers found out that if a computer-based student locator is implemented at St. Peter's College, the cost of implementation will be recovered in one year, one month, and 24 days.
