ABSTRACT

This study aimed to assess the behavior of the Grade 12 Information and Communication Technology students of Tuy Senior High School towards On-the- Job Training Program in enhancing practical skills. The On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program is a type of training that is provided at the workplace. It helps students get direct experience in using tools, software, techniques, or equipment used in working environment. Generally, students acquire academic knowledge and develop specific skills before graduation. OJT helps them to strengthen these skills and facilitates their career growth.

It was descriptive study and data was collected through survey questionnaires. There were 46 grade 12 students enrolled in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) strand in Tuy Senior High School. Of the 46 students, 40 were males and 6 were females. Likert scale was utilized in this research; it will gauge respondents’ behavior towards OJT program in enhancing practical skills of Grade 12 ICT students. A census will be our sampling method, every member of the Grade 12 ICT student population at Tuy Senior High School will be included, ensuring comprehensive participation. It uses a range of answer option ranging from strongly agree, agree, to disagree and strongly disagree. This data collection instrument in the form of questionnaire is composed of nine (9) questions that lead to evaluation of the behavior of Grade 12 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) students. The data gathered was analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The mean is used to determine the average value of a variable, while the standard deviation measures how dispersed the data is in relation to the mean.

The study revealed the highest mean of 3.74 with a standard deviation of 0.44, indicating that students strongly agree that the On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program is instrumental in developing their practical skills. In contrast, the lowest mean of 3.33 with a standard deviation of 0.73 suggests that while students generally agree that the OJT has provided valuable opportunities to enhance their practical skills in the field of ICT, there is more variability in their responses. This variability highlights differing levels of perceived value among the students. In overall, the result indicates a strong positive behavior towards the OJT program in enhancing the practical skills of Grade 12 ICT students.

Based on the evidence drawn from this research, Grade 12 Information and Communication Technology students have a generally positive behavior towards the On-the-Job Training Program. The implementation of On-the-Job Training Program (OJT) has proven effective in enhancing students’ skills, which they can readily apply in their future careers. Thus, the researchers recommend the continuation of the On-the-Job Training (OJT) program for the next school year to further enhance the practical skills of students.
