ABSTRACT
This study aims to document the history of MSU-IIT Muslim Students Association (MIMSA) as one of the active existing organizations in MSU-IIT. This study offers a clear insight of contributions of a multi-ethnic Muslim students society inside the university. The objectives of this study are to introduce the basic concept of Islam inside the university by conducting Islamic seminars and activities. To establish the efforts by Muslim students of MSU-IIT as one of the contributors of a developing university. To understands and shares the practices of multi-ethnic Muslim youth inside the university. To analyze the impacts of MIMSA as an organization and a prominent mover of Islam in a Multi-ethnic and diverse community.
Data were gathered through oral and online interview of the key informants and respondents; this study utilizes historical narrative – descriptive method.
Findings of the study reveals that MIMSA was created on September 14, 2006 after transitioning from its former association name Islamic Brotherhood (IB). Eventually MIMSA fully operates inside the university in year 2007 and conducts various Islamic seminars and activities including MIMSA Pakaradiyaan, RamadhanIfthar, Tarawee, Eid’lAdha, Eid’lFitr and etc. They also invite international speakers to speak for Islamic lectures, MIMSA also participates in Mindanao week of peace activities. The organization were guided by the Muslim faculties and staff of MSU- IIT, the association currently have 12 student Amir’s, 6 advisers and official officers of the organization coming from different year level and colleges of the university.
