A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF BREAST FEEDING AND BOTTLE FEEDING OF MOTHERS IN INFANT FEEDING

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to compare and contrast the effects of breastfeeding and bottlefeeding in infant feeding   of mothers regarding on physical, emotional and social effects   on mothers   in selected Barangay in Nasugbu Batangas. The respondents of study composed of 38 mothers, 16 from Barangay 2 and 22 from Barangay 6 who was residences on the said Barangays.

The researcher used descriptive method of research designed on this study by using the purposive sampling technique. A researcher-made questionnaire based on various references and from the Statement of the Problem that utilized in this study with the guidance of research adviser and validated by the selected professionals in Rural   Health Unit.

All of the respondents are female ages 15-49 years old, 75 percent in barangay 2 and 95.5 from barangay 6 were married. In terms of economic status, 43.8 percent from barangay 2 and 50 percent from barangay 6 earned 5001 to 10,000. When   it comes to educational attainment, barangay 2 got   37 percent in college level which was highest percentage while high school level was the highest percentage in barangay 6 which got 45.5 percent.

The findings of this study showed that the respondents on the perceptions of breastfeeding on the physical condition with Composite Mean weighted 3.44(sd=.609), and emotional condition with Composite Mean weighted 3.55(sd=.365) interpreted as strongly agree and social condition with composite mean weighted 2.71(.872) interpreted as agree. On the perception of bottle feeding the respondents also agree in terms of physical condition with composite mean weighted 2.83(sd=.872) as well as emotional condition with composite mean of 3.64(sd=.718) and social condition of mothers with composite mean of 2.49(=.719).

In terms of significant relationship between the perception of respondents regarding breast feeding and bottle feeding, the computed r-value of 0.120 which reveals a high correlation and the computed p-value of 0.001 which was lesser than the significant value at 0.05.
